Welcome to the Whales

Enjoy an evening under the stars as we welcome the first whales of the of the season to Moreton Bay! Seeking warmer waters to birth their young, the whale season in Moreton Bay runs from 2nd June – November, and this event will welcome them in style!

The event will feature stage entertainment, food trucks, free face painting, beach fire pits, an outdoor movie, sand sculptures, an ecological ocean zone, a Science Festival, and of course, the ‘Whale wishes’ ceremony, where patrons can place a candle on the gorgeous sand sculpture to wish safe passage to all whales entering Moreton Bay waters.

Peppermint Ollie 

PeppermintOllie is a Brisbane-based singer/songwriter and performer whose eclectic musical influences culminate in her self-titled style "aggressive uke". Ollie's clever lyrical and melodic lines are sure to be on repeat in your head long after leaving her charismatic live performance.

Ruby Gilbert

Ruby Gilbert is a Brisbane-based songstress, inspired by the grittiness of Johnny Cash, whilst channelling a timeless and stylised atmosphere. She has just released the first single from her upcoming debut EP "Dearly Beloved" which is released early June. Her mesmerising performance style has seen her play festivals around Australia, don't miss her performance at Welcome to the Whales.

Bring a picnic blanket and pick a comfy spot as the sun starts to set to watch Finding Nemo under the stars.

Jamie the Mermaid 

After hearing whispers her whale friends are traveling this way, Jamie the Mermaid has beached herself at Scarborough to help Welcome the whales to Moreton Bay waters. Jamie's beautiful tail is captivating with stunning colours of blue and pink, a truly mystical site to see. 

Ocean Zone

With hands-on art and craft activities the kids will love building their own paper plate whale, taking part in chalk drawings or completing an ocean-themed colouring in, all in the Ocean Zone. 

Plus, don't miss out on the Free Face painting!

Science Festival 

Thanks to Australian Coastal & Marine Ecology and Advance Queensland curious kids can learn about marine life at the Coastal Protection Core Science Festival with free activities and workshops. 

Learn about Coral watch from interactive educational and reef awareness tools. Experience a 360 virtual reality Great Barrier Reef experience with VR googles. 

Kids can get up close to marine life with touch tanks or take part in the Coastal Protection Core colouring in competition.
