We had a chat to one of our favourite locals Joyce Smith, to get some insider tips and tricks of the best spots to visit in Moreton Bay Region. From restaurants to shopping, swimming to walking, Joycee gives us insight into the best of what Moreton Bay Region has to offer tourists and locals alike.

#1. How long have you lived in the region?

"Since 1976. My first 35 years here were spent in Caboolture on a riverfront acreage with horses, goats, ducks, chooks and a donkey! Once the family had flown the nest I relocated to the quiet community style life at Scarborough.”

#2. What do you love most about Moreton Bay Region?

“The clean and green atmosphere. Every conceivable service is in close proximity to a major centre. The region has literally everything needed to enjoy life — beaches, parks, sporting facilities and clubs – we have it all.”

Mt Glorious Bushwalking

#3. What is your favourite place to visit in the region?

“The hinterland areas of Samford, Dayboro and Mt Mee. I just love to eat my way through these delightful towns set in such picturesque rural locations. Although, I do try to save a little energy for a walk in the D’Aguilar National Park to shake down the Devonshire teas before heading home!”

#4. Where do you take interstate or overseas visitors?

“Bribie Island for a wildlife-spotting cruise around Pumicestone Passage on The Ferryman. As well as, the Caboolture Historical Village, where the restored buildings and collectibles give my visitors an understanding of our region’s founding families.”

Coffee

#5. Where can you find the best breakfast?

“ Sea, Salt and Vine in Scarborough. Amazing ambience and menu selection. The Smashed Avocado Salsa with Smoked Salmon wins me over every time.”

#6. What about dinner?

“Fish and chips on any beach in the region, with a glass of something or other. The beach plays a large part in my life – a walk, or a cycle, along the waterfront always blows away the cobwebs and any stress from the day.”

#7. What is your favourite swimming spot?

“The natural swimming hole at Stony Creek, Woodford. Well, I don’t actually swim (because I can’t), but on a hot summer’s day it’s a delightful experience to walk over the boulders and paddle through the shallows.”

#8. Where is your favourite place to shop?

“Westfield, North Lakes. It’s a truly amazing, trendy and spacious shopping centre that caters for the needs of everyone. Each month there are new shops, theatres, cafes and restaurants popping up. The Laneway Restaurant precinct is a terrific revival stop after a hard day shopping!”

#9. What is a top-secret Moreton Bay Region spot you can share with us?

“My top-secret local Moreton Bay Region spot is the back deck of the Moreton Bay Boat Club in Scarborough! I never get tired of a relaxing happy hour watching the magnificent sunsets over the Marina. Of course, after happy hour the menu is difficult to ignore, with the fresh catches of the day waiting to be devoured.”
